When the telephone was invented in 1876, it took over 25 years for 10% of the population to use it. The rate at which we adopt technology has drastically increased since 1876. In addition, there is an exponential growth of emerging technologies each year.
How do we know which technologies are here to stay? The short answer is, we don’t. Technology must be created and adopted to be considered a success. In our last article, we talked about how technology is reshaping our world in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Now let’s dive into 3 emerging technologies to watch in 2022 that experts believe will stay for years to come.
1. The Metaverse
As we embark on new technology, the way we interact is evolving. Take a moment to think about all of your interactions so far today. How many of them involved social media, text messaging, or video conferencing? How many of your interactions today were in person? If the majority of your interactions were not in person, you are not alone. Thus, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg decided late last year to transform Facebook into a metaverse company. Now, you may ask, what exactly is a metaverse? A metaverse is a digital universe that will bring our social connections to life in 3D virtual spaces. While in the metaverse, you will be able to chat with coworkers in a virtual office space, attend appointments, and even go to live concerts located in an entirely different location. To put it simply, a metaverse will bring forth more possibilities to connect and impact how we interact.
2. Web 3.0
Web 3.0 is the third generation of the internet and aims to provide a data-driven web browsing experience that is more intelligent, connected, and transparent. Through the use of artificial intelligence, Web 3.0 search queries will provide near-human-like and personalized results. And much like cryptocurrency, Web 3.0 will be powered by peer-to-peer applications like blockchain technology and create an open, transparent environment that relies less on large companies like Google, Amazon, and Facebook.
3. Bank Tech
Who likes to think about banking?
Digital banking technologies all seem to be heading towards one goal: a world where you do not need to think about banking. Future banking is set to involve artificial intelligence to personalize your experiences, networks of physical objects embedded with sensors or software to create ease and flexibility, and voice banking to improve security and accessibility. Furthermore, experts predict that in 5 years banking will be embedded in our everyday activities.
Altogether, technology is constantly changing in order to make a positive impact on our lives. Wherever future technologies lead us, Gulf Coast Bank & Trust Company plans to remain focused on creating the best experience for our customers and adopting digital banking technologies that bring positivity to how we bank.
